Although EVs are advancing, hydrogen power generation is becoming more popular in the truck industry, so we are abolishing secondary battery-powered electric vehicles (BEVs) and giving way to hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). The truck industry is essential and the future of fuel used by trucks is worth considering.
Climate change, ecology, and environmental protection seem to be topics of life debate, and even more so in areas such as transportation. Measures are being taken to save Mother Earth for the fate of our future and posterity, and the transportation industry is becoming a big part of it.

Trucking is Going Green for the Future

To combat the climate crisis and potentially reach zero net emissions by 2050, the Biden administration will reduce greenhouse gas pollution in the United States by reducing emissions and increasing the efficiency of cars and trucks.
The truck industry is moving to cleaner trucks with the introduction of models like Freightliner's eCascadia. This is a fully electric truck with a Detroit ePowertrain electronic battery that has a range of 250 miles and can charge up to 80% in 90 minutes. They are more environmentally friendly, but there are concerns about battery electric trucks about recharge time and maximum capacity when traveling long distances.

Hydrogen Power vs. Battery Electric for the Future of Trucking

Hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric semi-trailers may be an option to address these concerns. A comparison of hydrogen and battery electric semi-trailers by the European Federation of Transport Environment shows that hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks are more efficient when looking at long-range maximum ranges and recharge times.
On average, they showed that battery-powered electric trucks traveling up to about 500 miles have a charging time of about 60 minutes. The hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric truck had a maximum range of about 750 miles and a charging time of about 10 to 20 minutes. Hydrogen energy lasts longer and appears to take less time to charge. This eases the time constraints offered by battery-powered electric trucks.

The Roll Out of Hydrogen Power for Trucking

The Port of Los Angeles announced that the Port of Los Angeles and its partners will debut five new hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks and two new charging stations. The efficiency of FCEV hydrogen trucks is tested in a heavy duty environment. Should battery-powered electric trucks use hydrogen in the backseat if they prove to be efficient in the long run, or do they work together to their liking? We have to wait and see.
